That Mak Mo (shaped like a watermelon) was built in 1504 and restored by Henri Mouhot (famous for his restoration work in Angkor). The old part of the city sits on a Peninsula between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers and it
contains many old temples.
Wat Xieng Thong is certainly one of the most beautiful and sits at the northern end of the peninsula.
As you pass from temple to temple, you have the chance to see the local people going about their daily lives.
