Old Matsumoto Residence (Designated as an Important Cultural Property)
This typical noble residence consists of a Western-style building and a
Japanese-style building. It was built by Matsumoto Kenjiro, the founder of
Meiji Technical School (now Kyushu Institute of Technology) and a businessman,
to serve as both his residence and a guest house. The Western-style building
was designed by Tatsuno Kingo, known as the "Father of Modern Japanese
Architecture," while the Japanese-style building was designed by Kubota
Kosaburo, who supervised the construction of the Western-style house.
A guided tour will be provided during the visit!
※ Lunch will feature exquisite French cuisine.
Old Kurauchi Residence
The Old Kurauchi Residence was the main house of the Kurauchi family, which
spanned three generations (Jirosaku, Hohou, and Jirobei) and operated coal
mines in the Fukuoka area, as well as tin and gold mines in Oita Prefecture
from the Meiji period to the early Showa period. The main building includes
the reception hall and garden, and later additions included a tea house and
entrance hall.
The building, garden, and surrounding area are now designated as a National
Scenic Spot.
Kawachi Wisteria Garden
Enjoy the stunning wisteria flowers in a vast 1,000-tsubo (approximately 3,300
square meters) garden!
※ Typical viewing period: Late April to early May
※ The blooming period may vary depending on weather conditions.
