Why You Should Redeem KrisFlyer Miles on Scoot in 2025

Joel Conceicao

Last updated: 18 พ.ย. 202510 minutes

Scoot Boeing 787 Dreamliner parked at Don Mueang International Airport gate under cloudy sky, preparing for boarding.

Once upon a time, as all the miles bloggers would tell you, redeeming KrisFlyer miles on Scoot wasn’t exactly worth it.

And they were right.

KrisFlyer miles for Scoot flights operated on a fixed cash rebate system, where one mile only offset roughly 0.95 cents of your ticket cost.

To give you context, that was less than half the value you’d normally get by redeeming a premium cabin on Singapore Airlines (SIA).

Thankfully, that’s all changed.

Scoot launched a brand-new KrisFlyer award chart in August 2025, and one-way economy redemptions now start from just 1,500 miles!

Here's a look at it below:

Photo: Scoot official website

In this guide, we’ll dive deeper into why it’s now worth redeeming KrisFlyer miles on Scoot.

Out with the old “earn but don’t burn” mentality, and in with the new, we say.

Here goes:

Why Redeeming KrisFlyer Miles on Scoot Finally Makes Sense

You Get Huge Miles Savings vs SIA

Perhaps you’re not that hardcore of a miles chaser.

Optimising your spend with the best miles credit cards around isn’t your idea of fun.

Nor does stashing away your miles for a business or first-class flight interest you.

In that case, stretching your miles on Scoot can be a very compelling idea.

Think about it: if you’re just a budget traveller looking to save some dough on popular flights from Singapore, this new scheme is a game changer. Even if you’ve never even been interested in chasing miles before, this might just tip the scale for you.

Here are a few popular examples:

Route

Scoot Saver Award Flight

Singapore Airlines Economy Saver

Singapore - Bangkok (one-way)

2,500 miles

13,500 miles

Singapore - Bali (one-way)

4,500 miles

8,500 miles

Singapore - Seoul (one-way)

12,500 miles

27,000 miles

Of course, you won’t get the frills and perks of an SIA flight.

But if your goal is to maximise the value of your miles, Scoot makes them go a lot further.

You Can Get to More Destinations

Another great reason to redeem your miles on Scoot?

Well, it’s simple: Scoot flies to destinations that SIA doesn’t.

You can get to the following places with your miles:

  • Jeju

  • Koh Samui

  • Lombok

  • Kuching

  • Gold Coast

  • Kunming

  • Okinawa

How epic is that?

After all, these were former SilkAir routes that became unavailable when Scoot took them over.

Now your budget beach getaway or wallet-friendly trip is even more affordable if you redeem KrisFlyer miles - or at least use them to slash the price of your fare.

It's a Great Alternative for When SIA Flights are Unavailable

In case you didn’t already know, Singapore Airlines Saver awards are pretty tough to come by.

During peak season?

Phew - you’ll need a lot of luck with that limited availability.

Scoot makes a great backup plan if your KrisFlyer waitlist doesn’t clear closer to your departure date.

You Don’t Need Full-Service Perks

Yes, business class - and especially first class and the suites - look amazing on YouTube.

But if all that doesn’t appeal, then redeeming Scoot flights with miles just makes sense.

You get a “free” flight and save money on your trip at the same time.

And the mileage difference?

That can easily outweigh whatever perks a premium cabin gives you, especially on short-haul flights. After all, a business class flight to Bali is nice, but not exactly a must-have, shall we say?

Just remember: a Scoot award ticket only covers your base fare and seat. You’ll still have to pay extra for meals, checked baggage, and other add-ons.

A Singapore Airlines award flight, on the other hand, includes 30kg of baggage, meals, and other creature comforts.

Ultimately, ask yourself: do I just want to get from point A to B?

Or is the whole experience - and being comfortable on the journey with full service - more important?

Elite Perks Carry Over

Oh, and good news for folks with KrisFlyer Elite status or PPS.

You’ll still get some nice Scoot perks even on award tickets.

For instance, PPS Club, KrisFlyer Elite Gold, and Elite Silver members enjoy:

  • Complimentary 5kg baggage allowance (with 20kg purchase)

  • Free standard seat selection

  • Priority boarding

  • A one-time change fee waiver for PPS and KrisFlyer Elite Gold members

And to make the deal sweeter, members earn 2.5 Elite miles for every KrisFlyer mile when flying on Scoot.

Those are more than decent reasons to use miles on Scoot without paying extra, if you ask us!

How to Redeem KrisFlyer Miles on Scoot (Step-by-Step)

Don’t worry - claiming KrisFlyer miles for Scoot isn’t exactly rocket science.

Here’s the rather straightforward process:

Photo: Scoot official website

  1. Log in on Scoot’s website or app with your KrisFlyer account. (Make sure you’ve signed up for one first, of course.)

  2. Select “Redeem Flights.” Enter your destination and preferred travel dates.

  3. Choose your flights. Pick those that are available for award redemptions.

  4. Fill in passenger details. This includes yourself or any redemption group nominees.

  5. Proceed to payment. Select the “Pay with KrisFlyer Miles” option.

  6. Redeem your miles. You can use miles for the base fare or decide how many miles you’d like to use.

  7. Pay for extras. Surcharges, taxes, and other fees (like meals, infant fares or processing fees) still apply.

  8. Confirm your booking. Your redeemed miles will be reflected on the confirmation page.

Just keep in mind: Scoot award tickets are non-refundable (except in emergencies, of course). Also generally, date changes aren’t allowed - unlike SIA’s Advantage tickets. Best to have firm plans in place.

Okay, now on to the good stuff.

Where can you actually go, and how can you make the best use of Scoot’s miles redemption?

Here’s a sample of key routes to popular destinations and the miles required.

For ease of use, we’ll only look at flights starting from Singapore. These are one-way Economy award tickets as of 2025.

Just to give you context of how valuable this is, a Singapore Airlines Saver award from Singapore to Melbourne is 30,500 miles.

Compare that with 12,500 miles on Scoot.

That’s some serious value.

In any case, here are a few more things to know about the Scoot award chart:

KrisFlyer Saver vs Advantage

For Scoot flights, both award types are for Economy Class.

The difference between Scoot Saver and Advantage?

Advantage awards require more miles, but you can book them closer to departure and on more flights.

Saver awards need fewer miles, but availability is limited.

Unlike SIA Economy Advantage award tickets, though, Scoot Advantage doesn’t offer extra flexibility on refunds or changes.

All Scoot awards follow the same rules.

Zones and Routes

You may have noticed we grouped certain cities into zones in the table above.

So if you’re unsure how many miles you’ll need for a particular route, just check Scoot's handy KrisFlyer miles calculator before your trip. It’ll give you the exact figure.

Photo: Scoot official website

No ScootPlus or Upgrades

If you’re wondering how many KrisFlyer miles it takes for ScootPlus (the equivalent of business class), the answer’s simple: you can’t.

Only Economy Class redemptions are available on Scoot flights. ScootPlus seats aren’t included, and upgrades with miles aren’t an option.

So when it comes to redeeming miles on Scoot, think economy only.

So, Is Redeeming KrisFlyer Miles on Scoot Worth It?

“Should you redeem KrisFlyer miles on Scoot?”

That’s a hot question we expect will keep coming up in 2025 and beyond.

We already said “yes” at the start of this article.

But to convince you further, let’s break down the value and share some tips - so you can decide if it’s worth it for you.

Understand Cents Per Mile (CPM) Value

One of the simplest ways to judge whether a redemption is “worth it” is to calculate the cents per mile (CPM).

Don’t worry if maths isn’t your strong suit - it’s straightforward.

Here’s how:

  1. Take the cash cost of the ticket.

  2. Subtract any taxes and fees you’d still have to pay on an award.

  3. Divide the result by the miles required.

That figure is your value per mile.

For example, if a base fare from Singapore to Melbourne (excluding taxes and fees) costs SGD 260, divide it by 12,500 miles. That works out to about 2 cents per mile.

Since taxes for that flight are SGD 93, you’d still pay that in cash. But by redeeming miles, you’d save SGD 167 on the fare.

Rule of Thumb

  • Above 1.5¢ per mile → Good value (worth redeeming).

  • Around 1¢ per mile → Just okay.

  • Below 1¢ per mile → Better to pay cash and save your miles.

Since KrisFlyer miles are generally worth about 1.5 cents each, hitting 2¢ per mile on Scoot is excellent value.

Some Basic Tips You Might Want to Consider

  • Compare with alternatives: Perhaps you’d rather pamper yourself. In that case, you can use your KrisFlyer miles for premium cabin redemptions. We’ve got a full guide on how to use KrisFlyer miles for Singapore Airlines if that’s the route that interests you.

  • Look out for discounts: Check out the monthly Spontaneous Escapes programme, where you can find flights with 30% off Saver awards on Singapore Airlines - a great alternative if you’re eyeing flight upgrades.

  • Expiring miles: If you have miles nearing expiry, using them for a short getaway from Singapore on a Scoot flight can make a lot of sense.

  • Taxes and extras: Remember, the number of miles you redeem only cover the base fare. You’ll still need to pay cash for things like baggage, meals, and other add-ons.

Other KrisFlyer Redemption Options to Consider Besides Scoot

Scoot’s KrisFlyer miles redemptions might be the name of the game here.

But don’t forget the classic ways to stretch your KrisFlyer miles.

Depending on your goals, these KrisFlyer miles redemption options are worth a look:

  • Singapore Airlines Saver and Advantage Awards: Still one of the best ways to use KrisFlyer miles. Saver awards give the best value but require flexibility. Advantage awards cost more miles, but you’ll get better seat availability and easier changes or refunds.

  • Star Alliance & Partner Awards: You’re not limited to Singapore Airlines or Scoot KrisFlyer miles redemptions. KrisFlyer miles can also be used on Star Alliance carriers like THAI, ANA, United, and Lufthansa. It’s handy for destinations outside SIA’s network. Most redemptions can be booked online, though for certain cases - like Swiss First or select Lufthansa routes - you might need to contact KrisFlyer Membership Services.

  • Upgrades vs Full Awards: You don’t always have to redeem an entire flight. A smart way to use miles is to upgrade paid tickets on Singapore Airlines - say, moving from Premium Economy to Business Class. It’s solid value through the Mix KrisFlyer miles and cash option. Just note there’s a 1,000-mile minimum per transaction. Upgrades aren’t available on Scoot, so keep that in mind.

How to Maximise Your KrisFlyer Miles with Pelago

It’s time for the next step (and arguably the most important one):

How do you actually earn KrisFlyer miles for those juicy redemptions on award flights? Psst… we’ve got a full guide on that if you’re keen on a deep dive.

But long story short: one of the smartest ways to stack miles - besides swiping your credit card or chasing promos - is through Pelago.
