- Redeem your JR PASS at designated JR green ticket counters or JR green ticket machines marked with “5489”.

This pass offers excellent value when travelling across Fukui, Ishikawa, and Toyama via the Hokuriku Shinkansen. If your itinerary involves moving between these prefectures, the savings add up quickly compared with buying individual tickets. Most Hokuriku Shinkansen services (except Kagayaki) include non‑reserved seating, typically in Carriages 1 and 2. This makes the pass even more convenient because you can board flexibly without needing to secure a reserved seat in advance.
Easy to redeem the pass at the green ticketing machines with passport readers. No need to wait in long queues at the ticket office. After redeeming the pass, simply insert the ticket into the ticket gate or show pass to staff. Worthwhile if travelling around a lot in the region!
Good value , easy to exchange at ticket machine .
Works well. Saves a ton of money if you are using the Hokuriku Shinkansen regularly. 1 drawback is that the voucher can only be exchanged for a rail pass at specific train stations.
