The International Antarctic Centre transports a slice of this astounding continent to Christchurch, with a range of immersive experiences that allow everyday visitors to see, touch, feel and fall in love with Antarctica.
Brave an Antarctic storm, go off-road in a Hägglund (must be at least 1.2metres tall to ride the Hägglund), mingle with the penguins, experience Antarctica from all four dimensions and leave with a head full of knowledge, a heart full of love and an inspiration to take action. Just like the explorers before you.

Brave an Antarctic storm, go off-road in a Hägglund, see rescued Kororā, Little Blue Penguins, experience Antarctica from all four dimensions and leave with a head full of knowledge, a heart full of love and an inspiration to take action. Just like the explorers before you. We are located next to Christchurch International Airport and open every day of the year, except Christmas Day, from 9am – 4.30pm.

A really interesting experience! The highlights would be the Antarctic storm experience - it's really really cold 🥶 , the boneshaking Hagglund ride and the chance to pet a real life Husky. While learning about antartic exploration of course! And there's also the 4D show
The ride exceeds my expectation. There is also a 4D experience session inside which is entertaining.
Decent way to spend half a day learning more about Antarctica and seeing penguins and huskies up close.
Excellent attraction
Not bad but quite expensive
Spent around 2 hours there and not something I would shout for, over hype and price.
