Here is where local people normally buy their groceries to cook their food, they also buy groceries in bodegas or big super markets but poor people come more often to this local market beause they can find fresh food at a fair price.Basilica Catedral Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia
45 minsAdmission Ticket Not IncludedThis is one of the most visited monuments in Latin America and the most popular place to see in town is the Basilica Catedral Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia dedicated to the virgin of la Altagracia, the construction and design were done by 2 french architects named Andre Jacques Dunoyer and Pierre Dupre, they were chosen by an international contest to do it in 1949. The Basilica was built in the center of the city with a structural design of a Latin cross, the main door is made of bronze with a gold wash of 24 Carats and it has a bell tower with 24 bells made of bronze, the most remarkable thing of t structure is the large arcs that represent the figure of Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia. There was a big cross that hurricane David destroyed in 1979 and it was put again in 2014.Higuey

Empanadas also called ''pastelitos'', are a traditional Latin food, deep-fried, made of flour and filled with choices like beef, chicken, vegetables, and cheese paired with sauces. Also taste freshly squeezed juices from local fruits. Then enjoy this delicious breakfast for less than $ 4 dollars. ( Vegetarian friendly). Then visit one of the largest supermarkets in Higüey one option locals have here to buy groceries. You will be able to bring some souvenirs with you like Dominican rum, fresh coffee, and traditional sweets and snacks. Lunch at a local restaurant. You will be able to taste the most delicious Dominican flavors like ''La Bandera'', a traditional dish made with rice, beans, and meat, or ''Mofongo'', garlic-flavored fried mashed plantain with pork cracklings. (Lunch not included in the tour price.
