Perched on a hill and surrounded by walls, it still retains the layout of its ancient streets and the medieval and Renaissance atmosphere evoked by Piazza Vecchia and Piazza del Duomo. The Palazzo della Ragione and Santa Maria Maggiore harken back to the municipal period, while the Colleoni Chapel, built to house the Mausoleum of the Condottiero and his daughter, brings Renaissance elegance to life.
