Highlights

Sunlover Reef Cruises is the only operator that combines the Outer Great Barrier Reef, at its Moore Reef pontoon, with Fitzroy Island in a single day.


Depart the Reef Fleet Terminal in Cairns at 8:00am and reach Moore Reef at 9:30am, before Sunlover's main day cruise arrives. Spend 2.5 hours on Sunlover's own section of the reef on an expansive pontoon full of space and a activities for everyone: snorkel with gear and a lycra suit included, or stay dry on the glass bottom boat, semi-submersible (sea and weather permitting) and underwater observatory. Kids have a snorkel training area and a 30-metre spiral waterslide.


Then cruise 45 minutes to Fitzroy Island, a rainforest national park, for a buffet lunch at Zephyr's on Welcome Bay and 1.5 hours to swim or walk to Nudey Beach. Back in Cairns by 4:30pm. Runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.


Sunlover Reef Cruises has operated from Cairns since 1991, is Australian owned and is an Ecotourism Australia Hall of Fame member.

I had an incredible experience on the Sunlover Cruises Full Day Tour to Moore Reef and Fitzroy Island with 10min Heli Ride! Everything was very well organized from check-in to the return trip, and the crew was friendly, professional, and always happy to help. I took this trip on ny actual birthday and they even gifted me a plushy & a lanyard ID that says “Today is my Birthday”. They are so thoughtful! The highlight for me was definitely the 10-minute helicopter scenic flight over the Great Barrier Reef. Seeing the vibrant coral formations and crystal-clear turquoise waters from above was absolutely breathtaking and something I’ll never forget. It gave me a whole new appreciation for just how massive and beautiful the reef is. At Moore Reef, there were plenty of activities to enjoy. Snorkeling was amazing with lots of colorful fish and healthy coral, and the pontoon facilities were clean and well-maintained. Visiting Fitzroy Island was the perfect way to end the day—we had time to relax on the beautiful beach, take in the scenery, and enjoy the peaceful island atmosphere. Booking through Pelago was seamless, and everything went exactly as planned. If you’re visiting Cairns and want to experience the Great Barrier Reef from both the water and the air, this tour is absolutely worth it. Highly recommended!

This is the first time we went to GBR so I cannot compare to other cruises out there. What I found is there were not many fishes.

Suitable for all physical fitness levels
The crossing to the reef takes about 1.5 hours and can be rough. If you are prone to seasickness, take a travel-sickness tablet before departure. Tablets are also sold on board.
Snorkel gear is provided at Moore Reef only. Hire gear from the island resort hire centre if you want to snorkel from the beach on Fitzroy Island.
Wheelchair users: wheelchairs can board the Reef & Island vessel, which has an accessible toilet but no designated wheelchair seating. The pontoon suits most manual wheelchairs. Fitzroy Island's national park tracks are not wheelchair accessible. Electric wheelchairs over 30 kg and mobility scooters cannot be taken on board. Drones are not allowed near the pontoon because of the helicopter flight path.
Minimum age is 12 years for participating in Seawalker Helmet dive - medical conditions apply
