Srirangapatnam is a town in the Mandya district of the Indian state of Karnataka. It is a rocky island formed by the Cauvery River, which made it a militarily and religiously significant town. Srirangapatna came into prominence during the rise of Hyder Ali and his famed son Tipu Sultan, who converted it into a fortified city. It was the power center of South India for a long time, before Tipu Sultan lost the last of the four battles against the British East India Company.
