Nestled on the shores of Lake Rotoiti, Lake Rotoiti Hot Pools is a unique
Aotearoa New Zealand experience.
Being accessible only by boat or by air is what keeps this haven so unspoiled
and pristine. Enjoy the beauty of the surrounding native flora and fauna,
with seven mineral hot pools to soak in and the clear blue lake waters to cool
down in.
Transfer across Lake Rotoiti by water taxi, which leaves just 2 minutes from
the Rotorua Rafting base.
Then just select the mineral hot pool based on your temperature preference,
and slip in to soak away your worries – awakening the mind, body, and soul.
Head down to the lake for an exhilarating dive off the jetty or whizz down the
slide into New Zealand’s biggest plunge pool!
Embark on a scenic walk up into the hills behind the pools to admire the
native bush and take in the stunning views of Lake Rotoiti from the top.
Key points:
- Rotorua Ziplines run every day, except Christmas Day
- Rotorua Rafting raft the Kaituna River daily all year round!
- Winter Trip Times 9am Zipline, 12pm Rafting on the Kaituna River, and
2.30pm Hot pool.
- Allow a Full day, 2.5 hours Zipline, 2 Hours Rafting, 2.5 Hours Hot pool.
- We provide all safety gear, you bring comfortable weather appropriate
clothing and covered footwear and a swimsuit and towel for the rafting and hot
pools.
- Kaituna River is Grade 5.
- Age limit: 10 years half river trip, 13 years and over Full river trip
(must fit safety equipment).
- Weight limit: 130kg
- Hot pool transfer is subject to minimum numbers. Hot pools leave VR Rotorua
(just a 2-minute drive from Rotorua Rafting base)

You’ll start by ziplining over three thundering waterfalls, then tackle the
exhilarating rapids of the Kaituna River, and finally unwind in the soothing
natural hot pools. Here’s everything you need to know:
On the River and Ziplines
What to wear: For ziplining, wear covered footwear and dress for the weather. For rafting, bring swimwear and a towel—we’ll provide wetsuits, river shoes, life jackets, helmets, and all safety gear.
Facilities: Free lockers and changing rooms are available for your convenience.
Feeling a bit nervous? Kia kaha – be strong! Our guides are adventure experts and love what they do. They’ll teach you everything you need to know to make sure you have the best time ziplining and rafting.
Health & Safety
This combo involves adventure activities with inherent risks, including
heights, high speeds, dynamic river conditions, and variable weather. Our team
follows strict safety protocols, but please note that risks such as sudden
weather changes, slips on platforms, and occasional raft flips are part of the
adventure. By joining, you accept these risks and acknowledge that Rotorua
Rafting and Ziplines are not liable for property loss or travel disruptions.
Important: If you have any medical conditions or weigh over 130kg, please
call us beforehand to discuss.
For the Hot Pools
After your zipline and rafting experiences, you’ll take a short drive to
the meeting point for the Rotoiti Hot Pool shuttle:
Shuttle Meeting Point: VR Rotorua Lake Resort, 366 State Highway 33, Mourea 3074 (just 5 minutes from our base).
Shuttle Departure: The hot pool shuttle leaves from the jetty at 2:30 pm, unless otherwise arranged with our team.
Boat Ride: Enjoy a 20-minute boat ride each way to the secluded hot pools.
What to bring: Swimwear, towels, and water for hydration.
