This museum houses a remarkable collection of artifacts, most of which were discovered in the area of ancient Thebes, modern-day Luxor. The highlights of this collection include masterpieces of pharaonic art and examples of everyday objects used by ancient Egyptians. One of the museum's significant features is several galleries dedicated to a spectacular group of statues found in 1989, hidden beneath the floor of the Luxor Temple. Additionally, there is a newly built annex that focuses on Egypt's Golden Age during the New Kingdom (circa 1550-1070 BC). This annex includes two royal mummies and offers a short film on ancient papyrus and vase-making techniques.
