This was one of the highlights of our Melbourne holiday and is highly recommended for anyone wanting to experience Australia's wildlife and stunning coastal scenery in a single day. The tour started smoothly with an easy meetup at the Mail Exchange Hotel. We travelled in a small group of just seven people, which made the experience much more relaxed and enjoyable compared to larger coach tours. Our first major stop was Moonlit Sanctuary, where we had approximately two hours to explore. The sanctuary is home to many native Australian animals, including wombats and kangaroos. Unfortunately, the popular Wombat Animal Encounter was already sold out, as only one session is available daily, so be sure to book ahead if you are interested. Feeding the free-roaming kangaroos was a memorable experience, although visitors should watch out for the cheeky birds and ducks that may try to snatch the feed container if left unattended. We then continued to San Remo, where we had a short comfort break and enjoyed views of the bridge connecting the mainland to Phillip Island. It was a nice opportunity to stretch our legs and take in the scenery. At Cape Woolamai Surf Beach, we walked on the soft sand and got close to the ocean. The beach was beautiful, with impressive waves and a rugged coastline that made for great photos. Lunch was at Cowes, the main town on Phillip Island. We enjoyed fish and chips from the highly recommended Nats Fish & Chips. Just be mindful of the aggressive seagulls, which are always on the lookout for unattended food! The wildlife sightings continued at Pyramid Rock Lookout, where we were lucky enough to spot penguins resting inside their burrows. This was followed by a visit to the Nobbies Centre. Although the visitor centre was unfortunately closed during our visit, we were still able to walk along the boardwalks, admire the dramatic coastal views, and spot more penguins in their nesting holes. The grand finale was, of course, the Penguin Parade, which was truly the highlight of the trip. We opted to upgrade from the standard seating to Penguin Plus for an additional AUD 40 per person, and it was well worth the extra cost. The upgraded viewing area provided a closer and more intimate experience of watching the little penguins emerge from the sea and make their way back to their burrows. Photography and videography are not allowed, but honestly, witnessing hundreds of penguins waddling ashore in the evening light is a memory that will stay with us forever. Overall, the tour was well-paced, covered a variety of attractions, and offered excellent opportunities to experience Australia's unique wildlife and coastal landscapes. Despite the long day of travel, every stop was worthwhile, and the Penguin Parade alone made the trip unforgettable.
