Dotonbori Museum Namikiza is a facility that opened in March 2019 in Dotonbori, Osaka.
The museum informs people in Japan and abroad that Dotonbori is a theater town with a history of approximately 400 years, that masterpieces of Bunraku and Kabuki were nurtured here, and that it has influenced theater productions around the world.
In particular, we focus on Shozo Namiki, a Kabuki playwright, with the aim of succeeding and reviving Dotonbori as a theater town.
Dotonbori Museum Namikiza offers the following three courses.
A: Taiken Course (30 minutes to 1 hour)
- Live guided tour with Kabuki actor transformation photo shoot and Mawari-butai experience.
- Video and quiz. You can learn about the 400-year history of Shibai-cho, the three great masterpieces of Kabuki and Bunraku, and the stage sets that originated in Dotonbori and spread throughout the world.
- Museum tour. Visitors are free to tour the museum.
In the Taiken course, "Tadanokitsunebu," a kabuki-loving fox cub disguised as a human being, will accompany you on your time travel!
Tadanokitsunebu will introduce you to rare images of the Former Konpira Oshibai, an important cultural property, and help you experience the manual Kompira stage and take photos of yourself in the Kabuki actor's disguise.
