The best time to visit Lijiang is during the spring months of March to May when the weather is mild and the flowers are in bloom. Another great time to visit is in the autumn months of September to November when the temperatures are comfortable and the skies are clear. Avoid visiting during the summer months of June to August as it can be hot and rainy, or during the winter months of December to February when it can be cold and snowy.

Getting around

Getting around Lijiang is easy with the well-connected public transportation system that includes buses and taxis. Visitors can also rent bicycles to explore the town at their own pace. Walking is a popular way to get around the Old Town, as many of the attractions are within walking distance. For longer distances, visitors can hire a car or join a guided tour.

Wear comfortable shoes as the streets in Lijiang can be uneven. Be prepared for high altitudes as Lijiang is located at over 7,000 feet above sea level. Try the local cuisine, such as Naxi hot pot and yak meat dishes. Bargain when shopping at the markets in Lijiang. Respect the local customs and traditions, especially when visiting temples and sacred sites.
