One of the many city natural parks and part of research lab, Museu da Amazonia (aka MUSA) offers nearly 250 acres of nature near the center of Manaus, Brazil. Access the trails, trees, frogs, orchids, and birds, and climb up the 135 foot observation tower with a guide for views over the whole thing.
At Musa, we find exhibitions, nursery of orchids and bromeliads, lake, aquariums and experimental laboratories of snakes, insects and butterflies. A tower of 42 meters allows to enjoy a magnificent view of the forest canopy of trees, unforgettable when seen at six in the morning. Forest trails provide visitors with pleasant walks and amazing discoveries. At Musa, research is carried out in the dissemination and popularization of science and scientific and cultural education. House of culture and science, of coexistence and celebration of the diversity of being in the world. A place where humans and nonhuman live happily together. The motto of “living together”, rather than an imperative of understanding between humans and non-humans living here, is, for Musa, a symbol of a project of education and solidarity committed to promoting citizenship in cultural, biological and social diversity and politics of the great Amazon Basin.

We were on time at designated meeting place. They tried to couple us up with another tour and said we could wait while they saw the opera house. We declined. They left, we waited for another car that was called. Then there was discussion about how long we would be at the MUSA museum. We became concerned that our ride back was shaky. Missing the ship was a concern. We decided not to risk it and returned to the ship. The port contacts did not seem to know what we had arranged. We did not want a city tour or a ride to the airport. The 3 of us were quite disappointed to not get to visit the museum.
It was a mess. The driver wanted to combine our transport with an Opera House tour for 2 ladies. We said no. Then they left in a car and we stood in the parking lot. They called someone to come get us. We could not get a straight answer about our return trip. Feeling uneasy, we went back to the ship to make sure we were on board by sail time. Our contact was unorganized, unprepared and clearly not committed to getting our group of 3 to the MUSA Amazonia Museau and back. We were very disappointed. We did not want a city tour or a ride afterwords to the airport as offered. This could have been better.
