Your guide will drive you in small groups from Rovaniemi to the national park of Pyhä-Luosto, located 1h30 away. You will then enter the old forests on snowshoes, for a great hike on deep snow. Your guide will take you to the top of the fells where you will have a splendid view to the horizon! Pyhä-Luosto national park offers impressive landscapes that you cannot find in Rovaniemi area. On top of the fells and hills, you can wander between the cotton-like snowy trees and feel like in a fairy tale! You will continue your off-track hike until you reach the Lampivaara amethyst mine. This is a unique place in Lapland, hidden inside one of the hills that you can only reach by a snow-train called “pendolino”. The pendolino will take you to the top of the hill and you will have the opportunity to explore the mine with a guided visit. You will then learn more about local geology, the formation of the precious amethyst and the story of the mine. At the end of the visit, you will dig the soil to find your own amethyst that you can keep! After the visit you will have time to enjoy a typical lunch snack around the fire, prepared by your guide.
