Highlights

This is a wonderful historical excursion with a rich program, which can be divided into three stages: a yacht tour from Ucagiz to the uninhabited island of Kekova to view the ruins of an ancient city that went under water after an earthquake in the second century AD, a pilgrimage tour to the temple of the basilica of St. Nicholas, that in Demre, visit and inspection of the ruins and famous burials of the ancient city of Myra, the former capital of powerful Lycia.

    Kekova Bay is the ‘hidden jewel’ of the Mediterranean. This boat trip to the uninhabited island of Kekova will reveal the ruins of the ancient city, which sank into the water after the earthquake in the 2ndC AD. In Kekova Bay it is possible to see the magnificent Roman hilltop castle which was visited by Julıus Caesar and the Emperor Hadrian. Also intriguing to the eye and mind, are the numerous, elevated, beautiful stone tombs, which embody the ancestor cult of the ancient Lycian State.

  • Church of St. Nicholas

    Our next adventure is a pilgrimage tour to the Basilica of St. Nicholas, in nearby Demre, the home city of “Father Christmas!” The Church is greatly reverred in Orthodox Christianity and many Icons are available in local shops.

    The story of Myra, which was the capital of Lycia civilization for a period, begins with the grave reliefs, and ends in the sea with the Port of Andriake. This is also known as the place where Goddess Kybele was Artemis.
