Climb the Nicaragua’s most active volcano Cerro Negro and board the sandy side all the way down to the base. This unique activity is a once in a lifetime opportunity to surf down an active volcano!
Itinerary
Cerro Negro Volcano
From the base of the volcano, we started a hike on a rocky path established by carrying the material for the practice of sandboarding, (you can also pay a guy who lives in the communities in the area to make you carry the material for $ 5) that led us to the mouth of the crater. Estimated ascent time: 1 hour and 20 minutes. Once at the top, from the summit of the volcano, we had incredible panoramic views of part of the Pilas-El Hoyo Volcanic Complex, and the Telica Volcano. From there, the descent with the board (sandboarding) can be done in 2 to 5 minutes depending on the speed you reach with the board. Visit as well the two activate craters, feel the heat, smell the gases and enjoy the wonderful views.
