Palácio da Regaleira is the main building and the most common name of Quinta da Regaleira. Also referred to as Palácio do Monteiro dos Millões, a denomination associated with the nickname of its former owner, António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro. The palace is located on the slope of the mountain and within easy distance of the Historic Center of Sintra, and has been classified as a Public Interest Property since 2002. Carvalho Monteiro, by the trace of the Italian architect Luigi Manini, transforms the 4 hectare farm into a palace surrounded by lush gardens, lakes, caves and enigmatic constructions, these places that hide alchemical meanings, such as those evoked by Masonry, Templars and Rosa-cruz.
