Highlights

At the heart of the UNESCO-listed Morne Brabant mountain, the team at "Haras du Morne" invites you to explore breathtaking landscapes on horseback or by carriage. As you ascend this iconic mountain, you’ll take in stunning 360° views—northward toward Benitiers Island and southward to Fourneau Island, both encircled by a magical lagoon. The surrounding lush forest, serene and vibrant, enhances the experience.


Venturing off the beaten path, you might encounter wild stags, drawn by the bond between your horse and the wildlife. Afterward, enjoy a refreshing ride along the shoreline, with your horse splashing in the waves. For an unforgettable finale, unsaddle and swim with your horse in the warm waters—a favorite daily ritual for these natural swimmers. Guides from Haras du Morne will be happy to capture these special moments with your camera.

    Le Morne Cultural Landscape, a rugged mountain on the southwest coast of Mauritius, served as a refuge for runaway slaves (maroons) during the 18th and early 19th centuries. The mountain’s remote, wooded cliffs provided protection, allowing the escaped slaves to establish small settlements in caves and at the summit. Today, Le Morne stands as a powerful symbol of the struggle for freedom and the sacrifices made by slaves from Africa, Madagascar, India, and Southeast Asia. Mauritius, once a key stop in the eastern slave trade, became known as the "Maroon republic" due to the large number of slaves who sought refuge on the mountain.
