Join us for an unforgettable glacier hike on Sólheimajökull, meaning ''Home of the Sun Glacier'', one of Iceland's famous natural wonders. Located on Iceland’s iconic South Coast, this adventure is for anyone who wants to touch real ice and see the wonders of a glacier firsthand. It is a perfect blend of easy exercise and breathtaking scenery. Your adventure begins at our base in the Sólheimajökull Parking Lot, about a 35-minute drive from the town of Vík. Here, you meet your friendly, certified glacier guide. After a safety briefing and gear-up, you’ll embark on a scenic walk through a quiet mossy valley that offers stunning views of the glacier, lagoon, and surrounding area before we head onto the ice. Next, ou’ll discover a frozen world of towering ridges and deep blue formations. Our friendly local experts will be right beside you to ensure you feel safe and confident, while they bring the glacier to life with stories of the glacier - how it was formed, how it is changing, and why it is so special to Iceland. 11/10 experience - incredible, once in a lifetime opportunity to walk on a glacier. We met as a group to get fitted for crampons, helmets and other equipment. My hiking shoes were not boots so I was able to hire some before we started. My husband and I joined a small group and the hike was very manageable - it can be quite uphill in some places but nothing too strenuous if you are a regular walker or hiker. It rained on and off while we were on the glacier and it wasn't uncomfortable or cold but would recommend wearing waterproof jacket and pants (and gloves if possible - mine were soaked through). Our guide was very experienced and we felt very safe with him the whole time and learnt a lot along the way. Would recommend - excellent tour!
Awesome experience walking on the glacier as the weather was very good. Our guide Steve was excellent. He's always checks in on those who a little slower.
