It was great! I went without much expectations and it was paid months ago so I didn’t feel the need to milk the experience.
Pelago got my guest's name wrong in the Disney Cruise Line system, which prevented me from checking in early, and it took a big round of emailing / texting various parties before it was finally resolved. The cruise itself was also massively disappointing – we did not manage to book any experiences at all. The DCL app is not very user-friendly, showing slots for clicking only to find that every single one of them is already fully booked. No notification that the Ironcycle Test Run was open for booking, slots were snapped up within 2 minutes (is this a Taylor Swift concert?). The gratuities are very high (USD96 for 2 pax, 3 days cruise) for service that felt pressurising and strained (the crew has no off days for the entire period of their contract which averages 4 months, work 2 meal shifts, sleep 4 hours daily and the work is absolutely brutal – AND IT SHOWS and transfers to the guests: a crew member actually said to me at the last meal "Mickey doesn't know Good, he only knows Excellent"), you're expected to pay at every turn. Photo packages? USD135 for 10 pictures, or USD199 for unlimited amount of photos. Royal Gathering? USD250 per child. Minnie ears headband? USD39.99. Beauty & The Beast TWG tea canister? USD58. At my wit's end on the last day and failing to book any experience so far, I told a crew member to their face that "this is just terrible!" and their response was simply "there's nothing we can do about it." Button badges? "Oh we ran out the previous sailing and the stock is ordered from the US and has not arrived." I made a donation for ocean conservation only to see it reflected as "gratuities" on my folio. Long queues everywhere, even if you go 30 minutes before a show you're probably gonna get grade C seats. If you're still fond of the Disney brand and its supposed magic, I would suggest you spend the money in a Disneyland – what you spend for a VIP experience is probably less but offers higher ROI than this cruise. The only redeeming bits was my ocean stateroom and the fireworks show on the second night, the latter of which was the only moment I could feel some of that Disney magic (that I paid a hefty sum for).
