Highlights
Chefchaouen, or "Chaouen" as it is often called by Moroccans, is a popular tourist destination with its picturesque blue color, visible from far away and even more dramatic up close. The name Chefchaouen refers to the shape of the mountain tops above the town that look like the two horns (chaoua in Berber) of a goat. There are approximately two hundred hotels catering to tourists who flock here from all over the world. You will love wandering the narrow streets, seeing the blue-washed homes and their splashes of color from flowers and street art. There are also charming cafes to sit at and people watch. The local people are wonderfully friendly and welcoming. The cool mountain air is a refreshing change from cities at the lower elevations of Morocco.
