We will visit a weavers colony where the Ikkat style of weaving is followed. The weavers use cotton, silk and sico, which is a mix of silk and cotton. Ikat represents a weaving form wherein the warp, weft and even both are tie-dyed before they are weaved to create any designs on the finished fabric. It will be a fascinating experience to see the Ikkat technique being applied to pattern textiles by employing resist dyeing and binding of weaves and yarns into a beautiful pattern A discovery was made at the 7the Century world heritage site of Ajanta and Ellora caves near Aurangabad. Some of the sculptures who figures wearing garments with Ikkat patterns! So Ikkat has been in India for atleast 1500 years now and is still staying relevant with its unique designs.
