Highlights
Experience the baptism site where Jesus of Nazareth was baptised by John the Baptist with a 4-hour private layover tour. The driver will await you at Queen Alia International airport to get your tour started.
Itinerary
You will be picked up from Queen Alia International Airport by your driver in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. Your driver will transfer you to the Baptism site which is close to the Dead Sea (the lowest point on earth). Al-Maghtas (Arabic), meaning "baptism" or "immersion" in Arabic, is an archaeological World Heritage site in Jordan on the east bank of the Jordan River, officially known as Baptism Site "Bethany Beyond the Jordan" (Al-Maghtas). It is considered to be the original location of the Baptism of Jesus and the ministry of John the Baptist and has been venerated as such since at least the Byzantine period. Whilst in Al-Maghtas you will see the remnants of a monastery on a mound known as Jabal Mar-Elias (Elijah's Hill) and an area close to the river with remains of churches, baptism ponds and pilgrim and hermit dwellings. The two areas are connected by a stream called Wadi Kharrar.
Then visit Jabal Mar-Elias, traditionally identified as the site of the ascension of the prophet Elijah to heaven. Also see the Jordan River that is a 251-kilometre (156 mi)-long river in West Asia flowing to the Dead Sea. Israel and the West Bank border the river to the west, while the Golan Heights and Jordan lie to its east. Both Jordan and the West Bank take their names from the river.
You will have lunch before Your driver transfer you back to Queen Alia International airport.
