The temple is called that way due to the origin of the word Pura which is a Balinese Hindu temple. Being the largest and holiest temple of Bali, it consists of 86 temples and there is no doubt you will have a great time exploring it. The temple boasts several ponds and pools. A large lake will immediately catch your eye when walking down the stairs from the entrance. In the centre of the lake is a fountain, featuring a statue of the Goddess of knowledge, art and music, Sarasvati. Behind the lake is a walled-off area with two pools meant for bathing. Continuing your exploration north, you will enter the elevated, main temple grounds. This is where you find many shrines, one of which is Candi Bentar; beautifully surrounded by water and making for a great opportunity to shoot a picture-perfect postcard photo.
