Da Nang Church
This Catholic church, built in 1923 by Reverend Louis Valais, is famous as the
only church built in Da Nang during the French colonial era. It features a
distinctive Neo-Gothic architectural style, originating in England. With a
rooster statue atop the church, it's also known as the "Chicken Church," and
is popular not only with Vietnamese people, particularly Catholics, but also
with tourists. Located in the city center, it's a popular stop for shoppers,
and visitors can enter during mass. Beautiful stained glass windows and pale
yellow walls create a gentle atmosphere. During mass, you can witness the
Catholic choir singing, experiencing the beauty of religion.Han Market is one of Da Nang's two major markets. This market is popular with tourists, and you can buy food items, daily necessities, and souvenirs here. It can get crowded, so please be careful with your belongings while sightseeing.
Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Shan) is one of Da Nang's tourist attractions. It consists of five marble mountains, each named after one of the five elements that make up the universe: metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. Currently, only the "Water" mountain is accessible for climbing. Because of its marble appearance, it is also known as "Marble Mountain" in English. It has been carefully protected as one of the sacred mountains since the Champa Kingdom, which existed before the 14th century. It is also famous as the mountain where Sun Wukong was imprisoned in the Chinese classic "Journey to the West." The mountain is characterized by several caves and temples scattered throughout, and there are many stairs. "Yun Tong Cave," located next to the souvenir shop area in the middle of the mountain, has a hole in the ceiling, so on sunny days, sunlight streams in beautifully, making the scenery even more fantastical. The most popular spot is beyond the arched gate called "Xuan Kong Gate." Beyond this gate is a large cave with a small temple. Sunlight shines in like a spotlight through the ceiling, which was damaged by bombing during the Vietnam War, and it is a place where many tourists stop to admire. The ancient architectural style of the Ryukyu Kingdom era is similar to that of the roof tiles of the temples on Mount Gogyo, offering a glimpse into past exchanges with Japan.
